Smartphone Free Childhood - USThank you for being a part of the Smartphone-Free Childhood US movement. We are so glad you are here, because… Parents often feel isolated when navigating the challenges of raising children in the digital age. Questions about when to give a child a smartphone and what restrictions are appropriate for school use are very common. Discussing these topics with friends, family, and community members can also be tricky. We understand how complicated this can be, which is why we're here to help. By creating supportive platforms, we aim to make it easier for parents to talk through their concerns, ask questions, and find the answers they need together. Ways to Connect with Us The Weekly Newsletter provides inspiration and information. It’s a great place to start. Our Instagram account and Facebook page will give you quick nuggets of information that are easily digestible and shareable. To get more involved, you can join our Facebook Group which is actively discussing many topics related to our mission. The National WhatsApp group is an active, daily discussion group for sharing information and thoughts on this topic. Our Website is a place where you can learn more about our goals and how you can get involved. The site also contains a wealth of supportive material and information to help you organize and act in your local communities.
Again, thank you for being here. Please forward this email to friends and family.

Wait until 8th: The Wait Until 8th pledge empowers parents to rally together to delay giving children a smartphone until at least the end of 8th grade. Phone-Free Schools Movement: A collaborative movement by parents, educators, administrators, and students to support and implement effective phone-free policies for K-12 schools. ScreenStrong: ScreenStrong empowers families to prevent screen addiction and reclaim their kids from problematic screen use (social media, video games, and pornography). Their solutions are not screen-free; rather they replace toxic screen use with healthy activities, life skill development, and family connections.

Parents making an IMPACTParents across the US are working hard to make changes in their homes, schools, and communities regarding smartphone use for kids of all ages. Laura, SFC-US, is meeting with her local school principals and parents to support and share information with them (yes, over the summer!). Principals want to feel supported as they move through this process of evaluating phones in schools. Laura brought with her a printed copy of the Administrator’s Toolkit from The Phone Free Schools Movement and the Kids Brains and Screens course book from ScreenStrong.

IMPACT TipFollow Laura’s lead and start conversations with your local school administrators now, during summer break (they're likely already considering this topic). Momentum is building, and there’s no better time than now to ignite change in your school’s phone policy. Are you aware of your school’s current phone policy?

Tell us why YOU are here? We'd love to hear about what motivated or inspired you to choose a smartphone-free childhood for your kids. Was there a particular moment or incident that sparked your concern? What brought you to this decision and to our community?

Here’s why Tara C. from Idaho is here…I started feeling the pressure of kids with smartphones when my oldest daughter was in 5th grade and that’s when I started to talk to others about delaying the smartphone. I think it’s SO important to let kids be kids! They don’t need to be exposed to all of the things that a smartphone brings. I’m here because I want to bring awareness to other parents that we can make a difference and help kids have a childhood by enjoying the real-world around them! The research keeps coming that smartphones aren’t good for our kids.
