Key Initiatives + Activities
Regular Webinars & Community Calls
SFCxUS hosts webinars with experts in the field, Community Calls, Edtech Working group calls, Distraction-Free Schools legislative working group calls. We bring together parents, educators, health care providers and more from across the country to share knowledge, strategies, support and bolster advocate confidence. Each session is designed to be practical and empowering, giving attendees tools they can put to work in their families, schools, communities and states.
Independence from Big Tech
SFCxUS functions independent of big tech influence or funding. As part of our commitment, we confront the ways Big Tech companies seek to shape the public conversation around children and technology, often through partnering with trusted organizations. We help our community identify conflicts of interest, evaluate information critically, and advocate from a place of integrity.
Distraction-Free Schools Policy Project
SFCxUS partners with the Becca Schmill Foundation on the Distraction-Free Schools Policy Project (DFSPP). DFSPP supports teams of advocates in 36 states, to push for legislation that addresses schools and tech. We connect school administrators, teachers, and parent advocates working to implement phone-free, social media-free and device-limited policies — and we amplify what’s working so others can follow.
Content For Parent Leaders
We are developing a growing library of high-quality, evidence-based educational materials for parent leaders to use in their community. No need to recreate the same material – instead parents can save time creating content and invest that time building their community to help change the norm.
Resource Library
Our resource library is a curated, continually updated hub of information — research, communication templates, conversation guides, and links to aligned organizations, books and people. It’s designed to be a go-to destination for anyone looking to take meaningful action, whether they’re just starting out or deepening their advocacy. We create resources where there are gaps, and we also amplify existing resources developed and actively used by members and those of aligned organizations.
Network & Coalition Building
SFCxUS serves as a connector, linking advocates, grassroots groups, experts and aligned organizations across the country. We facilitate working groups, online peer networks, mentoring and community calls that allow members to share lessons learned, coordinate on shared priorities, and build confidence in advocates to drive and sustain the movement.
Can't Look AwayScreening Support
SFCxUS supports community screenings of Can’t Look Away, a documentary that brings the issue about the harms of social media in a powerful and accessible way. We provide resources, facilitation guidance, and network support for groups interested in hosting screenings. Advocates can screen the movie free of charge, made possible by our partnership with the Institute for Families and Technology.
